Retrofitting is the process of modifying something after it has been manufactured. Retrofitting a building involves improving its performance in terms of its aesthetic sense & strength changing its systems or structure after its initial construction and occupation. Here the objective of study is the performance of building has been increased manifold by adopting retrofitting processes in RCC & Steel structures. After getting building audited we would go for strengthening process from column to top slab. There are different materials available to strengthen the column. The conventional method of retrofitting with rebar and concrete provides better strength as compared to fiber & Carbon Wraps, though these materials provide sufficient amount of strength to the column & RCC elements. While adopting the retrofitting process of columns we should keep in mind about to intact ductility behavior. Jacketing columns using concrete with rebar performs adequately in seismic affect. Apart from an inadequate number of continuous frames in both directions, improper layout and orientation of columns reduces the performance of building. Just by adding some plinth beams, creating column orientation in its desired direction and adding additional beams to create regular frame will enhance the seismic strength of building. Inadequate and disproportionate dimensions of the column section, leads to inadequate flexural and shear capacities in the columns of open ground storey. The practice of providing 230 mm wide columns in the lower storey may result in significant inadequacy in strength.
